This project was created to simplify and automate the installation and updating of Discord on Debian-based GNU/Linux operating systems.
This command checks for Discord updates, downloads the packages, and performs the upgrade all in one go.

How to build

You can compile using g++ or clang++. Additionally, the libcurl development package is required. On most Debian-based GNU/Linux systems, you can install it with the following command:

sudo apt install libcurl4-openssl-dev

If you prefer the GnuTLS flavor, you can also install libcurl4-gnutls-dev instead.

There's no need to think about anything complicated. You can compile with just the following command:

g++ discordupdater.cxx -o discordupdater -lcurl

clang++ discordupdater.cxx -o discordupdater -lcurl

Usage

Basic Example

discordupdater -u                #Install or update Discord.
discordupdater -c                #Check Updates.
discordupdater -d -D /home/user/ #Download package to /home/user. (Not install)

Command line options

Command line options cannot be specified in a combined form (invalid example: -nuy).
Each option must be entered separately (correct example: -n -u -y).
Why is that? To reduce development effort :)

-c             : Only check updates for Discord and do not install
-C <cmdline>   : Specify the installation command line. "%s" will replaced to package name.(default: sudo apt install -y %s)
-d             : Only download discord.
-D <diractory> : Specify the download diractory.(default:/tmp)
-n             : Do not remove package file after installation.
-o <filename>  : Specify the download filename.(default is the original filename)
-r             : Reinstall Discord.
-u             : Download Discord .deb package and install it.
-y             : Do not ask any questions.
-h             : Print help.
-v             : Print version information.

updater.sh

This file is a shell script that, when executed, checks for Discord updates and displays a dialog asking whether to install the updates if they are available. Clicking "Yes" will launch the main program in a default terminal emulator, and the installation will be executed.

This script requires Zenity. On most Debian-based GNU/Linux systems, you can install it with the following command:

sudo apt install zenity

The main program is named "discordupdater" and needs to be placed in a directory that is included in the PATH (for example, /usr/local/bin).
Alternatively, you can also modify the shell script itself.

This script was developed with the expectation that it will be executed at the startup of your desktop environment. Register this script in the auto-start settings of your desktop environment.
